Bedford Man Facing Felony Charges After Search Warrant Uncovers Meth, Cocaine, and Drug Parcels Shipped to Home

A Bedford man faces multiple felony charges following a multi-month narcotics investigation that culminated in a search warrant uncovering packaged methamphetamine, cocaine, and suspected mail-order narcotics deliveries at his residence.

Chase Wells, 26, was arrested on Thursday, September 24, 2026, by the Indiana State Police.

The Narcotics Investigation & Warrant Execution

According to the sworn affidavit, the Indiana State Police had spent several months investigating methamphetamine distribution networks operating across Lawrence County. Information gathered during the operation led investigators to secure a search warrant for a residence located at 2043 Mt. Pleasant Road in Bedford.

On September 24, Trooper Chance Humphrey approached the residence alongside Lawrence County Sheriff Greg Day to execute the warrant. As officers prepared to knock and announce their presence, Wells opened the front door and began walking outside. Wells was immediately detained in the yard and claimed he did not know whether anyone else remained inside the home.

Trooper Humphrey and Sheriff Day entered to clear the structure, where a female occupant—identified as 45-year-old Talia Blake—walked out of a hallway bedroom and was taken into custody in the living room.

27-Gram Meth Rock, Cocaine, and Mailed Parcels

A systematic search conducted by Trooper Humphrey and Detective Caleb Garvin uncovered significant amounts of illegal narcotics, paraphernalia, and shipping materials:

  • Back Bedroom: Detectives located a glass plate bearing crystal residue, accompanied by a clear plastic bag holding a large crystal rock. The package field-weighed 27 grams and field-tested positive for methamphetamine. Positioned directly next to the plate was a U.S. Postal Service package addressed to "Talia Lewis" at the Mt. Pleasant Road residence, alongside a glass smoking pipe with burnt residue.
  • Camo Bag & Concealed Contraband: A camouflage bag found in the back bedroom contained Talia Blake's Indiana identification card, four round orange pills, half of a white rectangular pill, and a Marlboro cigarette pack holding a cellophane wrapper with 1 gram of field-tested methamphetamine.
  • Front Bedroom: Inside the room Blake exited, investigators documented three plastic bags with crystal residue and a second opened USPS parcel addressed to "Talia Lewis." Inside the parcel was a plastic bag containing a white powder that field-weighed 12 grams and tested positive for cocaine.

Conflicting Statements Contradicted by Police Surveillance

During post-Miranda interviews, both occupants provided statements regarding the home's activities:

  • Talia Blake stated she had been living at the Mt. Pleasant Road home for the past two months. She admitted to using methamphetamine every other day and provided investigators with details regarding where she had been obtaining the narcotics. She stated that when she arrived at the home with Wells, three packages addressed to her were waiting on the porch, which she brought inside to open.
  • Chase Wells claimed to investigators that he had returned home alone around 5:00 p.m. and that Blake had simply shown up later unannounced. Wells alleged that Blake was the sole person who brought the packages inside, telling him they only contained clothing. However, Wells acknowledged that this was not the first time Blake had packages shipped to his residence.

Investigating troopers noted that physical surveillance conducted on the property directly contradicted Wells' claims, as officers had visually observed Wells and Blake arriving at the residence together.

Wells was transported to the Lawrence County Jail for formal booking.

Chase Wells Preliminary Charges:

🔹 Maintaining a Common Nuisance (Level 6 Felony)

🔹 Assisting a Criminal (Level 6 Felony)

Case Number: 26ISPC015886

Investigating Officer: Trooper Chance Humphrey, Indiana State Police (assisted by Lawrence County Sheriff Greg Day and ISP Detective Caleb Garvin)
