⚖️ High-Profile Court Updates

Speedway Shooting: Trial Dates Officially Set

The legal proceedings for the January 5th shooting at the Speedway gas station have entered a critical phase. We now have specific trial dates for the two primary suspects:

  • 🛑 Talon R. Briem (Case No. 47D01-2601-F1-000037): Briem faces seven felony counts, including Attempted Murder and Conspiracy to Commit Attempted Murder. His jury trial is currently scheduled to begin on September 4, 2026, at 8:30 a.m..
  • 🛑 Elijah D. York (Case No. 47D01-2601-F1-000038): Facing six charges in adult court, York’s next Pretrial Conference is set for April 22, 2026, at 9:00 a.m..

⛓️ Special Report: Surge in Probation Violations

We are tracking a significant "tick up" in local arrests for probation violations this month. Law enforcement and the Prosecutor's Office are actively enforcing court-ordered conditions, resulting in a wave of recent bookings at the Lawrence County Jail.

Recent Probation Violation Arrests:

  • Jacklyn R. Wallace (36) — Arrested April 13, 2026, at 11:15 a.m..
  • Dylan C. Sipes (29) — Arrested April 14, 2026, at 4:20 p.m..
  • Joshua K. Pickett (35) — Arrested April 14, 2026, at 4:34 p.m..
  • Michael W. Meadows (30) — Arrested April 14, 2026, at 7:00 p.m..
  • Zachary Payton and Amanda Bruhn — Also part of the recent enforcement surge as authorities continue to clear local warrants.
Why This Matters: Local prosecutors have recently emphasized that probation is a privilege. Senior Deputy Prosecutor Sarah Cummings noted in similar cases that "the State of Indiana will not tolerate this type of blatant disregard for violating a court order".

đźš” Local Investigative Updates

Violent Domestic Allegation on Bartlettsville Road

Charles Hardin, 39, is in custody following an April 6th incident that led to several felony charges.

  • The Allegations: Hardin allegedly forced his way into a residence and assaulted a woman while she sat in a recliner with her daughter.
  • The Charges: He faces counts of Domestic Battery in the Presence of a Child, Vehicle Theft, and Invasion of Privacy.

K-9 Detection Leads to Drug Arrest

Cory Brent Lee, 34, was arrested on April 11th after a traffic stop for allegedly erratic driving.

  • Evidence: A K-9 alert reportedly led officers to discover approximately 1.4 grams of methamphetamine allegedly hidden in a nicotine can and a prescription bottle.

🏛️ Appellate Ruling: Neighborhood Feud Upheld

The Court of Appeals of Indiana has officially upheld a protective order against Debra Goins of Bedford. The court found that Goins' actions—including alleged verbal abuse and surveillance of a neighbor's family—constituted a "credible threat". Goins was recently sentenced to 365 days for a prior violation of this order.
